Type Locality and Naming

It was nominated by Nan Yi in 1964 and published in the Regional Stratigraphical Scale of Central South China in 1974. The type section is at Lingxia, Nanxiang, about 20 km west of the Yunfu County, Guangdong Province.

Synonym: (岭下组)


Lithology and Thickness

It was dominated by brownish yellow, grayish green thin-bedded silty shale and shale; the lower part is intercalated with yellow green siltstone.

Relationships and Distribution

Lower contact

The section, over 101 m thick, is still with no bottom exposed.

Upper contact

The contact relation of the formation with the overlying Lower Devonian remains unclear.

Regional extent

The formation is observed merely at Lingxia, Nanxiang of Yunfu County, Guangdong Province.

Fossils

The formation yields trilobites Coronocephalus rex, Otarion cf. diffractum, O. kuangtungensis; graptolite Monograptus ex gr. priodon; brachiopoda Plectodenta nanhsiangensis, Brachyzyga pentameroides, Chonetes cf. proliferus; gastropods, bivalves, tentaculitids and crinoid columnal, etc.
